I’ve moved into my room at the Temple Protestant which is in the center of the city. I really didn’t know what to expect, but I’m very happy with this place. From what I can tell, there’s only one unit in the church. From the church, you walk up a wooden staircase to a single door, my apartment. There are three bedrooms, a living room and kitchen. I knew it would be furnished, but it really has everything here. I have coat hangers, an iron, silverware, towels, lots of blankets, etc. I even have some spices and rum left over from the last people to live here. The place is great, and the location is even better. Another assistant from Italy just moved in also, and we’re expecting another from Costa Rica.
After a bit of struggle, I was able to get a pay as you go phone. It’s a rip-off though, and I’ll probably switch to a contract once I run out of minutes on this bad boy. 20 euros for unlimited texts and 40 minutes of talk time in a month. Pfffft. I don’t have internet yet but I’ll get to that on Monday, hopefully.
Marco, Minh and I went out tonight for a beer and to look around the city. We saw a fight outside of a bar, and all I understood was something about someone pissing in someone’s mother. Ahhhh, la France. We speak in French, which is really nice. I was expecting to live with American assistants and speak in English the whole time, so this works out a lot better.
Tomorrow is Sunday, which means I can’t do anything. Monday, I hope to open up a bank account and sign up for an internet\landline\cable service.
Update! I finally got my bank account, but am still waiting on internet. At least I can get paid now, I hope
